Ridgefield Residence
Inspired by the local vernacular in form and materials, the Ridgefield Residence is a modern addition to an existing guest cottage on a historic property with its own architectural history. The addition transforms the cottage, originally a barn, by doubling its gabled volume and connecting to the two forms with a glass walled entry foyer and staircase. The new volume contains an open kitchen, living and dining zone of the ground floor with additional bedrooms and living space above; all with large modern windows connecting the spaces to the forested landscape. In the original cottage, the space is reconfigured to create a generous primary bedroom suite while preserving the historic character and humble scale of the cottage.
